Pici, there is a new Italian in town!

In 2016 Time Out Magazine announced that ‘pici’ was the trendiest dish of the yearIt's trendy but it is also a classic for a reason, it excels in simplicity and flavour. Pici is a form of pasta that looks like fat spaghetti and is traditionally served with a fingerlicking delicious butter and parmesan sauce and lots of black pepper. A true classic Roman recipe: Cacio e pepe! Instagram has a whole catalogus of photos with #cacioepepe.

Pici is also the name of a new pasta restaurant that opened recently on Dageraadsplaats, one of the cosiest going out spots in Antwerp. The pasta is freshly made in the restaurant, Italy lovers will be happy to see the pasta machine in the middle of the restaurant and you can see the chefs in the open kitchen.

I had to try the cacio e pepe pici on the menu of course, and it got thumbs up from me!

The rest of the menu at Pici is compact but that makes it easier to decide of course! The traditional lasagna and papardelle al ragu are there but I also saw a nice suggestion on the blackboard: pasta with asparagus. The chefs in this restaurant are following what the vegetable (city)garden has on offer that season and work with local vegetable farmers.

There are also three yummy Italian desserts on the menu. Dessert is a sin for me this summer (getting back into fitness mood) but one scoop of vanilla ice cream had to be tried.

No pizza on the menu here but that is because the owners also have a pizza restaurant! I wrote about Standard before: the pizza spot where they make the super delish sourdough crusts. Just like in Standard they are using organic veggies and herbs from the urban farm Pakt.

It is my new hotspot in town! And they have a big terrace for dolce far niente sunny days and warm eves. The terrace carries the vibrant vibe of Dageraadsplaats and on sunny days and balmy evenings it is a perfect spot to feel a holiday mood in the city!

What is the vibe?
A relaxed yet elegant atmosphere, I am in love with the all white interior and wooden tables with marble top. Staff are super welcoming too.

What is on the menu?
Pasta of course! Short menu but a fine example of what Italian cuisine stands for: top quality products and seasonality. Some nice bruschette appetizers too, the one with white beans caught my eye!
