Marlene® apples from South Tirol

Marlene®  apples come from beautiful South Tirol. Their aroma and taste are created in the unique climate of the mountains with over 300 sunny days and 2000 hours of sunlight every year.

Marlene®  apples come in many varieties: from the golden delicious to the granny smith: every variety has its own qualities and flavour.

I was asked to think of a recipe with Marlene®  apples. The first thing that springs to mind is apple pie of course, but I felt like showing  you something savoury. Hope you like it, because the best recipe gets a trip to the land of Marlene® . Oh how I wish I am going to see the beautiful mountains with apple trees!

Spiced apple relish for the best hot dogs ever!

Peel and core two red Marlene®  apples
Cut the apple pieces into square cubes
Peel the red onion and cut into very fine pieces
Put everything in a pan with 1 tablespoon of apple cider, 1 teasoon of cinnamon, & teaspoon of nutmeg
Let it simmer on a low heat for about 10 minutes minutes until the apple pieces become soft and the apple cider becomes syrupy. (not too soft, it is not apple sauce)
Put some baby spinach and watercress leaves in the bun and add the baked sausage, top with a big spoon of apple relish.
Tuck in.
Great to serve with apple cider!
