Dining in a World Heritage Building
If you are in Leuven and you are looking for a special location to eat, I have the perfect place for you. What about dining in a World Heritage building? I knew I was in for a real treat the moment I stepped through the Faculty Club gate.
I had the pleasure of tasting the new Summer menu of restaurant Cum Laude in The Faculty Club beginning of July. It was a beautiful evening and sitting outside being surrounded by history while I was sipping a glass of champagne felt like a real holiday moment.
The menu features fish and meat dishes with a seasonal touch. The presentation is artfully done on a series of beautiful plates. Yes we also eat with our eyes. The wine list has some excellent choices. Be sure to order the 'Cum Laude' wine, it is really nice. There are great seasonal options for vegetarians every month. And not to forget to mention the thoughtful and attentive service of the maitre and the waiting staff which made it all very pleasant.
The restaurant and menu had a complete makeover this year and the interior has been tastefully refurbished with on-trend furniture and lighting details. When you see the stylish inside don't forget they have a lovely outside area as well. Weather permitting you can dine al fresco, like we did, it gave me an instant holiday feeling. There is a grand piano outside so I guess some evenings there must be live music too.
When you eat at the Faculty Club don't skip the last course, the desserts here are top drawer. Notably my chocolate ganache and raspberry combo, a perfect marriage of flavours. There were no jealous looks from the others at the table because everybody had a fabulous dessert.
We were also given a little tour around the building and saw the fabulous renovations of the meeting rooms. The state of the art conference and presentation tools had us all 'oh and ahhhing' . Must show this to my boss!
