Nestled between the grocery and night shops on the Chaussée de Charleroi is this diamant of a coffee place: Parlor Coffee. With a great breakfast and brunch menu this soon became thé place to start the weekend in Brussels. Tables and chairs in Scandinavian design, a mezzanine with comfy sofas and at the back a little patio for sunny days.
It was indeed a sunny day when I went there to meet a friend but there is such a relaxed atmosphere, I think even on a rainy day you can feel the good coffee vibes here. With the free wifi and a decent magazine selection I could have easily spent hours here.
One of the owners is Japanese and I was so happy to see her oriental roots reflected on the menu. I went straight for the Tokyo Chicken bagel: succulent teriyaki chicken on tofu cream cheese and boiled eggs like you never tasted them before. I couldn't resist the great homemade cakes selection and made an excellent choice with the green tea cake. The tea was served in Moomin mugs and they stole my heart! I need to have one.
